What if someone where to say, "The party doesn't really have power."
Would the people listen, would they join forces. I think Orwell is
telling us NO. Even O'Brien tellsWinston heis sadly mistaken if
he thinks the proles might ever rebel. Today, England has a diminishing
power of state,
people can read what they like, and they are no longer the imperialistic
colonizers and power they once were. America, the land of the free
is the only super-power left. Our democracy and freedoms are often
compromised for national security. We are all skeptical, everyone
questions the government. Is this what Orwell was hoping for. A
population that would not believe any drivel they were told. A media
that is always 'In Your Face'? Orwell once was a man who thrived on
giving hope to the poor, and unfortunate. Did he change his mind.
Did he lose faith in the ability of the impoverished to ask questions?
Today all we really have to fear is ourselves. Our laziness and ignorance
is the only thing now preventing us from obtaining any goals. This is
especially true for the new 'generation X'. The uncaring and mindless
thousands, ourselves will be the only thing to bring us back into 1984.
