PORTFOLIO
DUE: December 2, 2004 (beginning of class)

RATIONALE
The purpose of the portfolio assignment is to revisit and reflect on the past semester. It is a place of honest reflection, both on your growth as a student and on my performance as a teacher. Your grade does NOT depend on what you say (basically, you'll get an A if you complete the assignment), so please do NOT "kiss ass".

ASSIGNMENT
Go back and skim over all the essays you've read , all the notes you've taken, and all the papers you've written for this class. Then, write a paper reflecting on the past semester. What SPECIFICALLY have you learned/not learned? What did you expect? Did you get it? What will you take away from this class? Was this class valuable to you? Why or why not? How could I, as a teacher, have facillitated your learning better? How could the class have been run differently, if you were the teacher? Have you personally grown as a writer? In what ways, specifically? Have you personally grown as a critical thinker? Do you think what you've learned in this class is important? Why or why not?

Obviously, those are just some random questions I came up with off the top of my head. Please feel free to write about whatever you want, as long as it pertains to this class in some way. Remember, I will not give you a grade based on what you write, I simply want to know what you think about this class, and how I can improve it in the future.

IMPORTANT
Use concrete details in this paper. Instead of saying "Your assignments were boring." (which doesn't help me out at all), say "Paper 2 was boring to me specifically because of these reasons...".

Instead of "I didn't understand the readings" say "I never understood simulacra, panopticism and psychoanalysis. I would have understood it better if...".

WHENEVER POSSIBLE, TELL ME WHICH SPECIFIC ARTICLES / CLASSES / DISCUSSIONS YOU ARE REFERRING TO.

FORMAT

2 pages (or more, if you want), double spaced and typed.
